“Early Riser has two meanings. When our children are born, the predictability of our former lives goes out the window. Babies know nothing of morning, noon, and night or human-made schedules. Childhood is filled with too little sleep and 5 am wakeup calls. I woke in those first few years feeling the yawn of the day ahead without much structure to support me. And then night would fall, the witching hour. I would sit for the first time that evening just in time to have my toddler creep down the hallway ready for another drink of water, another cuddle. One thing is for sure, it can be challenging to handle these moments with grace or gain perspective on why they might be happening. It seemed there were a million and one books on labor and delivery but nothing met my needs on how to integrate the first years of raising a child.
The second meaning of Early Riser is that it is the dawn of our journey as parents and caregivers. There is no manual for becoming a parent. All we have is the blueprint of how we were raised and what we have seen in our peers around us or in our culture. Each day is a chance to rewrite our old stories with loving kindness. Each day is a chance to find a renewing spirit of family life and feel the wonder of childhood. Early Riser Companion is the book that I wish I had when my daughters were first born. It is a resource that parents can use to navigate the transitions in a day. Let Early Riser Companion be with you, a trusted friend, spurring on creativity and intuitive knowing for your own journey.” - Elizabeth Antonia
